First Alumni Meeting in London

Last weekend we held our first MUN Mannheim alumni meeting in London. Many months of preparation from our 3rd associate Annabel had gone into organising the event which celebrated MUN Mannheims 10 year existence.

Most people arrived throughout the day on Friday. We met up in the evening at a lovely Italian restaurant called “Ciao Bella”, where members and alumni could reunite or get to know each other over pizza, pasta and wine. Everybody was excited to see who had shaped the society before them and who would help lead it in the future and common interests created a relaxed and open atmosphere from the beginning.

This atmosphere accompanied us during the next day when we met in a hotel conference room for the alumni meeting to officially begin. Three board members from three different generations held presentations about the MUN Mannheim that they had experienced. Discussions were held about where the society was headed and insights were given about what had gone well in the past. Everybody was happy to share their opinions of what MUN Mannheim is about and immediately agreed that an alumni network should be maintained and extended in the future. Afterwards, we all headed to Borough Market to enjoy street food. We met again in the evening for a picnic in Kensington Gardens and a chance to go out to Londons pubs, clubs and casinos.

On our final day on Sunday we met up again for a long and relaxed brunch at “Jackson + Rye” and to enjoy the sunny weather at Regents Park. People spent the rest of their time making the best out of Londons museums, sights, book stores, restaurants and cafes and fulfilling one or the other tourist stereotype.

Without a doubt all attendees took away something from this first alumni meeting - whether it was a chance to reconnect with their student life, advice about uni, career and being a board member or new friendships. It was a pleasure to host all of you - see you next year!
