ScotMUN 2015 in Edinburgh

MUN Mannheim e.V. was represented in this year’s ScotMUN by 12 delegates. The conference took place in the beautiful city of Edinburgh from Friday 6th of March to Sunday 8th of March. The Opening Ceremony, which was held in the historic Assembly Rooms, marked the start of a great weekend full of new friendships and perceptions. Mark Muller Stuart QC who regularly advises international bodies on humanitarian crises, and Per Johannson, Head of Office for the European Parliament in Edinburgh, gave insights in their work with global organizations.

A definite highlight was the social event on Friday evening. All delegates were invited to the Balmoral, a five star hotel in the centre of Edinburgh, where an outstanding three course dinner by Michelin-starred chef Jeff Bland was served. Hereby, we got the great opportunity to get to know our committee and create a more personal atmosphere within the committee sessions from Saturday morning on. After enjoying the food and the obligatory cup of tea, tables were moved and space was created to dance different types of the traditional Scottish Céilídh. It was so much fun dancing and all of us will remember this night for a long time.

Saturday was of cause dominated by the hard work in our committees, in which we represented different countries such as USA, Ecuador or Switzerland in various committees including the Security Council, a Cabinet Crisis Committee or the ECOSOC. At night-time, all delegates were keen on partying in an Edinburgh club and letting the past long discussions behind. On Sunday, we went back into session to finalize the first Draft Resolution or maybe even start discussing the second topic. All of us were confident about the activities of our committees and the resulting resolutions. At the end of the conference, Julia Bernhardt even received a „Best Delegate Award“ by her Chairs in the Dual Cabinet Crisis.

We all have been enjoying the MUN spirit of working together during the day and really enjoyed ourselves together in the evenings. Discussing together with people from all over the world and getting to know them in doing so was once again a fantastic experience. We all thank the organisation team and we are all looking forward to our next MUNs. In the end, I have to mention that Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen and that the conference was absolutely stunning!
