League of Arab States

Topic: The Yemeni Civil War

Level: Advanced

ABOUT | ORGANIZATION

The League of Arab States, also known as the Arab League, is a regional organization of 22 Arab countries established in 1945. The league's main objectives are to promote economic, social, cultural, and political cooperation among its member states and to coordinate their policies in various fields, including foreign affairs, defense, and trade. The league has played an important role in regional conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli conflict, and has taken measures to address issues such as terrorism, economic development, and refugee crises. The Arab League serves as an important platform for Arab countries to address regional challenges and promote cooperation. However, because of present inter-Arab political and economic rivalries, the League has generally been unable to pursue a consistent agenda on various issues.

ABOUT | TOPIC

The League of Arab States committee will address the ongoing crisis of “The Yemeni Civil War”, which has led to one of the world's worst humanitarian catastrophes. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of millions of Yemenis, widespread hunger, and the collapse of basic infrastructure, including healthcare and education. Delegates will discuss how to address the root causes of the conflict and find a way to bring an end to the violence. They will also examine how to provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the crisis and support efforts to rebuild Yemen's infrastructure. The aim of this committee is to find a sustainable solution to the Yemeni Civil War and promote stability and security in the region.

Tyler Hillier

I'm Tyler, a 3rd year law student at University of Exeter. I spend most of what little free time I have playing benchball, doing MUN and playing video games. I've been doing MUN for almost 8 years now, and ever since I got handed a country out of nowhere at my first conference, (I signed up to run notes but ended up a delegate) I have loved it ever since. I love the advocacy element of MUN, and how it makes you see through a lens you otherwise wouldn't, on issues you otherwise wouldn't know anything about, or even if they existed at all. I look forward to seeing you all in Mannheim in April!

Tom Kirkpatrick

Hi, my name is Tom Kirkpatrick, I study Law and Philosophy in Tel Aviv University and I'm excited to be co-chairing the Arab League Committee in MAMUN 2023. I've been participating in MUN since the Ninth Grade and it's been a truly meaningful and enjoyable part of my life. Which is why I'm glad to have the oppurtunity to help share it with all of you!
