The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is a body of the United Nations responsible for maintaining international peace and security. The UNSC has 15 members, including 5 permanent members with veto power - the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom - and 10 non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. The UNSC is authorized to impose sanctions, establish peacekeeping missions, and take other measures to address threats to international peace and security. The UNSC also has the power to authorize military action as a last resort to restore peace. The decisions of the UNSC are binding on all UN member states, making it a critical component of the international community's efforts to promote peace and stability.

The UNSC committee will tackle the complex issue of “The Aegean Dispute”, which has been a longstanding conflict between Greece and Turkey over territorial claims in the Aegean Sea. The dispute has escalated tensions in the region, posing a threat to stability and security. Delegates will discuss how to address the underlying issues and find a peaceful and sustainable solution to the dispute. They will also explore how the international community can play a role in mediating the conflict and ensuring the safety of civilians. The goal of this committee is to find a way to resolve the Aegean Dispute and promote stability and cooperation in the region.

Louis Brokatzky

Hello, I am Louis Brokatzky and I‘ll be one of the chairs for MAMUN 2023 security council. When I am not doing MUN then I am a law student at the university of Zurich and working in the area of sanctions handling for a swiss bank. This years conference will be my second MAMUN and I am looking forward to see you there and experience the amazing city of Mannheim.

Matan Barak

Hey y'all! My name is Matan, I am a a 23-year-old Israeli-Canadian currently doing a master's in Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution, and I will be your chair in the Security Council committee. I was previously the Chairman of Tel Aviv Model United Nations, and presently am studying as part of a think tank within the University of Bonn. I am extremely excited to meet everyone coming to MAMUN 2023 both in the committee room as well as the during the socials (drinks are the greatest mediators, from experience and according to historiography!).
